Glazed by rain – Forest fungi Collection

Rain changes the way we see a forest.

Water settles into bark, moss and leaf litter. Colours deepen. Surfaces that seemed muted only hours before begin to reflect light. And among them, fruiting bodies rise from the forest floor and decaying wood, their surfaces holding the evidence of the weather that has just passed. Yet what appears above the substrate is only the visible moment of a much larger biological system. Beneath it, fungal hyphae continue through wood, soil and organic matter, largely unseen.

Together, these five photographs document more than mushrooms after rainfall. They reveal how water, fungal morphology, pigmentation, texture and light temporarily transform living structures into something that resembles sculptures.

The glaze lasts only briefly.

The organism does not.

Much of it remains hidden within the substrate, continuing to grow, decompose organic matter and interact with its surroundings long after the visible fruiting bodies have disappeared.
